I’ve just started using a little plugin that makes a tiny but important tweak to the [tag]SEO[/tag] effectiveness of your Wordpress Blogs…
It’s called Duplicate Content Cure..
Basically, if you’ve used [tag]wordpress[/tag] much, you’d know that quite often, when you check your indexed pages, you see
lots of weird results that aren’t in fact content on your site but random php files, category pages and so on.
Basically it works on the premise that if for example your category page gets indexed, ie yoursite.com/category-name and it has part of X blog post
on it as one of the posts in that category… Then later THAT post page gets indexed too, it will look like you have the same content twice on your site…
Not the worst thing in the world, but it certainly won’t HELP your [tag]search engine rankings[/tag].
I’m no techie but from what I understand this plugin makes it so that a NOINDEX command gets added in your robots txt file for your pages like archives and categories etc so that your POST pages don’t appear as duplicate content.
All making sense?
All you need to know is: Download this plugin and start using it as soon as you can

The All In One SEO Pack plugin also includes this options, plus a whole lot more…
nice to see you’ve got a personal blog up at last mate!
The new Google Site Map plugin will allow you to create that robots.txt file and decide what sections get added to the sitemap and eliminates the problem and creates your site map at the same time.
Just an FYI.
Matt,
All in One SEO does this? Damn, why did I never see that option? :S Good to hear from you mate!
Michael,
Interesting! I was just looking at the new GS plugin yesterday – Here’s the link for everyone if interested:

The All in one SEO plugin is very good – been using it for quite some time.
However, If you read Google’s TOS, even thinking the word SEO is against their rules. Oh wait a minute, Google doesn’t own the internet.
By the way, don’t you think it’s high time that someone explain what duplicate content actually is? I guarantee you, it is NOT properly described bythe common knowledge set of definitions that are floating around and being repeated like a bad tape recording by just about every marketer I have read. Afterall, there is often little knowledge in common knowledge.
Btw, for all you blog builders… there is a really a great way to prepopluate blogs with content to be posted in defined dates and categories. Take a look at one of Wordpress’s management features called import RSS. Now, think about converting ALL kinks of data to XML. It’s a beautiful thing.
I believe it was O’ Reilly who said “Data is the next Intel inside – just ask the Patriots how well their number crunching has been doing for them.
