Not into BEO? Don’t know what it is?
Maybe you should…
There’s so many new search engines that have come along the past couple of years that I’ve intentionally begun paying them no interest. More recently we saw Wolfram Alpha (which after all the hype, pretty much flat out sucked) and then Microsoft’s BING.com.
Bing.com was in the “who gives a rat’s ***” category for me along with all the others… until yesterday evening.
I was checking on the traffic stats of one of my little niche sites for the first few days of July and this is what I saw…
Interestingly, Bing.com generated a little more than 1 third the traffic that Google did over this few days.
You might think that’s not significant but consider that it’s twice as much as the traffic from Yahoo and quadruple the traffic from MSN AND it’s an engine that’s only a few months old, and you’ve got a definite cause for investigation.
I wish I had some insight to share about how I increased traffic by 30% through Bing but… I don’t.
I don’t know how I got rankings in there (although when I checked, I noticed my rankings in Bing for many terms were higher than my rankings in G for the same terms, which may indicate at least some difference in the search algorithms) but I’ll certainly continue the little investigation.
I’ll also be watching to see if my traffic from bing.com INCREASES from that amount as they index more of my content. It’ll also be interesting to see how quickly they can index content compared to G. I’ll see if I can do some tests on that for you too.
In any case, it’s all interesting stuff and I’m sure it won’t be long before we’re seeing courses on BEO (Bing Engine Optimization… wait, that’s not quite right… BO? American President… Ok so I don’t know what it will be called.) abounding.. hopefully a couple that that will even be worth reading

Bing… lol… Love the “BEO”
I guess I will have to keep an eye out for Bing!
Interesting info… thanks
David
Bing is the bees knees right now. The real cats pajamas. I’m sure a lot of their popularity is due to their ad spots they’re running in the US but I think they’ve got a winning formula with that search engine.
I’ve seen much better rankings for my sites as well than I get in Google. I’ve read a few BO tutorials already, but the engine is too new for anybody to have really tested it out.
From a purely user side though I love it and I love its personality.
What BO tutorials did ya find? Be great if you could share the link
From what I hear so far there are things in common with the MSN ranking algorithm but I’m sure the real details of what goes on behind the bing rankings is still to come.
The commercials have been running ramped here in the US. I notice many Bing referrals… no, not referrals, searches from Google analytics.
Yea I’ve seen the commercials here in Canada too – they’re hitting it pretty hard.
I think Google owns it, and they want to introduce new things that don’t quite fit with Google itself.
Very, very interesting man. I haven’t looked closely at my analytics in a while and I may be surprised as well!
