When I recorded this episode of the podcast it’s title was “5 Reasons” people quit new businesses. You’ll hear that title if you press play too.
Only just before publishing did I realize that the reason this discussion is so important and the thing that separates it from so many other ideas on the topic is that each of my “5 Reasons” are actually “5 feelings”.
This episode is about the things that prevent people following through when they’re growing new businesses. It’s about why so many people give up before the finish line, before they get what they really wanted out of the business they started.
It’s not because they didn’t get the right niche market or they didn’t identify the right sources of traffic, even though perhaps those factors played a part.
It’s about feelings.
Because I think more often than not, it’s those pesky feels that distort your view of what it is you’re doing, how it’s going, and what it’s going to be like as you continue. And when things get too distorted, we give up.
I think you’ll recognize the feelings that are discussed, from disappointment to overwhelm and my hope is that you’ll enjoy to hear a careful, perception adjusting discussion of these feelings, how they affect you and how they can be managed, to get you to better, more profitable outcomes.
I won’t do the usual minute by minute breakdown of this podcast, just know that the 5 feelings are:
And they’re discussed in that order so feel free to jump through the episode as it suits you.
It’s tempting to think that the weird things we face mentally while growing a business – all alone in our home offices or spare bedrooms, grinding away on our keyboards – are unique to us, but I’ve found that rarely to be true.
I know we’d all benefit from a sharing of experiences here, so let me know in the comments whether you’ve felt one of these feelings & how it affected you.
I hope you enjoy!
