Don’t ask me why I’ve started so many posts with “why I like” lately…
Anyway…
One of the earliest pieces of advice I received, and subsequently came to teach – was to look for products OUTSIDE of clickbank first. For a long time I hastened to promote clickbank products, wrongly believing that the only ones that sold were those that were too crowded with competition and not worth going after.
Recently I’ve come to realize that this thought is misguided, and I’m actually starting to LOVE clickbank products.
If you are a Firepow member, you’ll have seen that my case study blog has now done over $100 in sales of a CB product in its first 10 days or so – even with the little effort I’ve been able to put into it.
Furthermore, two of the Firepow members who’s blogs have ALREADY gotten sales, have also come from CB products.
My thinking Re niche selection right now is this…
The bottom line… the determining factor for me of what’s a great niche – is “how well does the product sell” – the product you’re planning to promote I mean.
To me, a high converting sales letter is infinitely more important than number of searches per month, number of competitors in Google, you name it.
If a product converts super high – it doesn’t even matter if you stuff up your traffic generation efforts – the small amount of traffic you do drive will still bring sales!
It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t get as many searches per month as you thought – again, the small amount of traffic will still convert to sales.
It doesn’t matter if there’s too much search competition – even if you can get just a FEW rankings on some long tail keywords – the traffic will convert!
If you start by picking a high converting product, the only problem you need to solve is getting it in front of waiting eyes.
If you DON’T have a great converting product, then you have to worry about how to sell it, what group of people to sell it to, and THEN how to drive traffic and get the offer in front of them…
What I’m saying is that lots of products in Clickbank have great sales letters that CONVERT visitors to buyers. And that’s what will make you money.
That’s my thought of the day

I wish CB had a would track actual click-throughs to a sale after someone lands at a sales page.
Boy, I screwed that sentence up. Sorry.
Good thought for the day mate!
I didn’t have one today, unless going to the pub counts..
Andrew,
excellent points.
If something is selling well and converting well there’s a reasonable chance it will continue to do so with *your* visitors so your advice is spot on.
Since most web owners (certainly newbies anyway), struggle with generating traffic, it’s a good idea to make the most of every single visitor. This certainly sounds like a good way to do it.
As MattG says, good thought for the day!
I used to be dead against Clickbank as well, mainly because it was what I started with when I first got into marketing and had no success with it. I thought this was because of the high competition, I’ve since found it was because I didn’t know how to market! Recently I’ve had excellent results with Clickbank using article marketing (Ezinearticles) and NMOC. Doing it properly I’m getting sales every 3 – 25 hops depending on the product. I’m currently in the middle of starting a campaign to promote Fat Loss 4 Idiots – I was inspired by a thread on WF where people said they could only get sales every 200-300 hops. It’s just a challenge for myself more than anything but I still reckon I can do much better than that! Tbis is the thread http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=259742
