Was the question my local bank teller asked when I bought in my months worth of Clickbank checks last week.
The full question was “We’ve just recently been noticing these checks come in alot – Where do they come from?”
I was actually really surprised by this….
In the past, the bank tellers have been weird enough about me bringing in a check from another country… now suddenly, humble bank tellers of a single bank, in my tiny home town in suburbian Gold Coast Queensland, of about half a million people are reporting seeing clickbank checks frequently!
It’s even more weird considering that on the world scale, Australia is somewhat behind in terms of their acceptance of work from home, internet type businesses. Someone in LA last year told me that the number of Americans that work from home now is something like 25%, where Australia is way down at like 10% (don’t quote me on either of those!)
SO… what does this mean?
Well if we assume this to be an actual indicator of a trend (which of course is stupid but fun for the purpose of this post) a few interesting things can be noted.
1. The affiliate marketplace is becoming ever more crowded, making it harder every day for the average CB affiliate to make money by sticking up an Adwords ad and hoping for the best (something I hope you’ve all realized already)
2. As I’ve said for a long time – there are FAR better places to look for affiliate offers than on CB, and this is precisely why.
3. Even the other affiliate networks and products that can be promoted can’t be far behind in their popularity growth – that means that to keep making those affiliate sales, we’re going to have to come up with more unique and better ways to get our offers out there than ever before.
4. It’s good for those who market to IMers because evidently, the size of your market (those who want to work online from home) is rapidly increasing.
Furthermore, and perhaps most excitingly, it means the skills that everyone reading this post has already developed and continues to develop are going to become increasingly more valuable into the future – it’s a good thing to remember – that there are more and more people every day wanting to learn what you already know – you’re VALUABLE man
Anyway, this post is just an interesting observation, and a few things to think about as you proceed on your online marketing journey

Ah Andrew, there is another positive here that you haven’t mentioned.
Not everyone with Clickbank checks/cheques (we’re Aussie remember
) is an affiliate. Many of them will be creating and selling their own products for many different niches. More people equals more products equals more products to market.
I certainly don’t see the growth of IM as a bad thing, just more opportunities.
Hi Andrew,
I don’t even go to the bank to pay in my clickbank commissions any more, they’ve just introduced a “XACH” direct deposit facility so you can have your commissions paid directly in to your account…
I’ve just posted some details about it on my blog (MattGarrett dot com), although I don’t know which countries they cover at present.
Saves me a couple of trips to the bank each month and some bank charges, so it keeps me happy!
