I have been a 'closet fan' for some time because you always make sense. Not to mention, you save me TONS of research and work!

I had this exact problem with my upline sponsor and still have it with some members of my team. Fortunately, 'steering' and 'managing' seem to be my roles in life, so I just do what I do on my horse - Adjust the reins, sit deep and steer, steer, steer. Think Dory's little ditty from 'Finding Nemo' - "What do we do? We steer, steer steer... Oh, I like to Steer!".

Andrew,

Thanks for the reminder. Without fail, I find better, more targeted, useful information when I research a topic by surfing blogs and sites specific to the topic that I want to know about.

You are right. Product launches are a "exercises in great marketing". That's why I love them.

I also like to study the sales copy of these launches. There is something to discover in each one. That "something" is what motivates me to do some research.

You see, when I find irresistible sales copy....I force myself to wait 24 hours to cool down. Then I write down what it was that made me REALLY want to buy it. I look at the bullet points. I study what triggered me to want to buy. I ask myself..."what am I really looking for? What info is in this product that will help me?"

You know what I usually find? I usually find that there are only one or 2 HOT buttons that the copy got me on.

This helps me take some emotion out of the buying process. When I take the emotion out of it, I find that I rarely buy something. My emotion is triggering me to want to buy it but I know deep down that I can find this information with a little research...for free.

Now, if it is a reasonably priced product (under $20) I usually snatch it up so that I can get some ideas of "what" to research further.

Here's why $20.......

Go to the book store. Check out the business section. You will find a large selection of information out there on paperback and when you look at the price, what do you see? I see a lot of $14.95, $19.95, $22.95 books that have high quality information that I'm looking for.

Sometimes a $14.95 book is WAY more valuable that a $197 product that you see on the internet...plus you get to thumb through it BEFORE you buy.

Take this to a new level and visit your local library. Find the same books here and get them for free.

However when in comes to $47, $97, $197 products on the internet, I stay away for 24 hours. If I still want it. Then I'll buy.

Now, I'm not saying "don't buy" internet products. I think you should. Many of these products ARE products of great value and can't be found in the book stores or library's. Plus, this is how we all make a living. Right?

Just be smart about it. If there is a product out there that you are compelled to buy. Give yourself a cooling off period so that you can analyze the product with logic...not emotion.

thats one reason why newbies fail... information overload... before they can focus on one thing they are swayed by hype about another thing that just got into their mail box...

what newbies should realize is that they should give themselves a specific goal or time to do something or follow a certain business model... give it a reasonable time line within which they are to check if they were successful or not, otherwise move on to the next...

...and opt out of these mailing lists.... they are such a huge distraction, i did try opting out to several of these guys, but i still have several i am subscribed to

Andrew,

How true!

I've come to the same realization for a while now. So, I've been resisting to follow any product launches that don't fit into my interests. But the temptation sometimes is so great...

Anyway, I do take the recommendations of a few IM'ers seriously --like yours. If I don't see the need to buy those recommendations immediately, I'll bookmark them into a "Must-Buy" folder for later purchases.
