What Is Google Assassin? **WAIT! Not a Promo!** Haha

**Please believe me when I say that I WON’T be promoting GA in this post! :) **

That’s almost the question I had to ask when someone mentioned this program to me in an email earlier today…

May I say at this point I still have no idea what it is, and I have no intention of finding out.

Why?

I’m writing this post because I realized today that a staple part of alot of people’s online “businesses” is following product launches…

I’m not kidding.

These people systematically review each launch that gets publicized, often get caught up in the hype and become in love with the product, only to find – after being the first one there on launch day, that when they get inside, it’s nothing they haven’t seen before, and is often not even close to what it was ‘hyped’ up to be…

I know because I’ve received emails indicating the above sentiment from people on numerous occasions, the most recent of which was this morning!

Now I can’t blame anyone for getting caught up in launch hype – I’ve done it and I still do it on occasions too. The marketers behind product launches are great at what they do – and people react in the way they are made to – it’s not a bad thing.

The thing that sucks about the “IM Game” is that product launches are so frequent that the people who follow each of them – even when they DON’T buy – get made to think that they should be changing their business model to whatever is the subject of the popular launch.

Someone tells me “I just joined this PPC Super Platinum Training Bootcamp Seminar Workshop Series Membership” and I say “Huh? I thought you were building your niche content sites at the moment?” …

Conversation over…

**FLASHBACK**

Remember when you first heard about making niche content sites? Remember how excited you were about the income potential? About earning passive income, working from home and making yourself rich without working a ‘JOB’ – wasn’t it great? Didn’t you feel SO excited?”

** END FLASHBACK**

What happened to THAT excitement? The method you’re working on now hasn’t lost any of it’s effectiveness? Don’t you realize that if you start a fresh you’re losing all the progress you’d made on your original plan and that even if you start this new method, it will be only a matter of weeks/months before the next product launch causes you to start from scratch again and lose all THAT progress too???

If this is you don’t be offended – you’re CERTAINLY not alone!

I’ll spare you a rant about the psychology of why we make these decisions too but just so you know – YOU’RE BEING MANIPULATED!

Now, I’m not making any comment on the value of these products because like I always say I BET most of them are GREAT and I bet that if you DID follow them you WOULD make money – I just know that because of your nature as a product launch groupie – you WON’T follow it when you buy it, so you WON’T make money – hear that?

Now what can you actually learn from this? I wasn’t going to leave you on that grumpy note, don’t worry :)

While it might seem hypocritical at this juncture, I LOVE learning!

I’ve just gone on a fresh learning binge and I’m currently dedicating the majority of my day to taking in new information to keep growing both personally and in my business.

Does that mean I’m buying new products left right an center? Hardly.

I’ll tell you now – and please believe me when I say this – that there is more PHENOMENAL information, posted FREE on online business blogs across the web than you’ll find in 99% of product launches PERIOD.

In my learning binge I’ve come across certain blogs that I’m now reading frequently – and I’m getting more new and fresh, and HIGHLY applicable information from them, than I’ve gotten from **Almost** any paid product I’ve purchased – and just to make it clear – it’s FREE!

Now the thing is that I know whether this information is relevant to my business BEFORE I read it – so I can read ONLY what I want to learn – ONLY what is relevant to my current business model – no need for opportunity hopping!

I’m going to tell you about some of the blogs I’ve been reading. Keep in mind I’m interested in learning more about SEO, niche marketing, affiliate marketing, niche product creation, blogging and marketing in general – so if you’re not doing those things, probably no need to check them out ;) Here are some in random order:

**WAIT!!**

I just realised these should come with a warning. FREE information CAN distract you just as much as paid information so if you feel yourself wanting to HOP to a different opportunity from reading anything I suggest here – PLEASE resist!

**OK**

copyblogger.com – Tonnes of cool information here about blogging, social marketing and copywriting of course.

tropicalseo.com – good SEO information here

johnchow.com – HUGE nerd, but knows the internet and online marketing – always interesting.

seobook.com/blog – More great SEO information – enough to keep you reading forever.

And hey while I’m here, I might also tell you the paid products I HAVE acquired lately – I’m not going to say they’re for you also but I will say I’ve bought them and I personally learnt alot.

Niche Marketing Report Bundle – Dr. Mani – Tonnes of niche marketing advice from traffic generation to niche research from someone who walks their talk.

The Lazy Marketer – Chris Rempel – Seriously new and hardcore info for niche marketers (excuse me if you’ve heard me rave about this already)

Umm.. and yeah, that’s about it :)

Anyway, allow me to conclude this post with a plea…

PLEASE – if you identified yourself in the descriptions above – stop being a product launch groupie – pick a model and stick with it and see most product launches for what they are – exercises in great marketing.

That said – seek great information that’s FREE and keep learning more about how to optimize THE MODEL YOU’RE ALREADY WORKING WITH!

Peace,
Andrew

  1. Andrew,

    How true!

I’ve come to the same realization for a while now. So, I’ve been resisting to follow any product launches that don’t fit into my interests. But the temptation sometimes is so great…

Anyway, I do take the recommendations of a few IM’ers seriously –like yours. If I don’t see the need to buy those recommendations immediately, I’ll bookmark them into a “Must-Buy” folder for later purchases.

  2. thats one reason why newbies fail… information overload… before they can focus on one thing they are swayed by hype about another thing that just got into their mail box…

what newbies should realize is that they should give themselves a specific goal or time to do something or follow a certain business model… give it a reasonable time line within which they are to check if they were successful or not, otherwise move on to the next…

…and opt out of these mailing lists…. they are such a huge distraction, i did try opting out to several of these guys, but i still have several i am subscribed to

  3. Andrew,

Thanks for the reminder. Without fail, I find better, more targeted, useful information when I research a topic by surfing blogs and sites specific to the topic that I want to know about.

You are right. Product launches are a “exercises in great marketing”. That’s why I love them.

I also like to study the sales copy of these launches. There is something to discover in each one. That “something” is what motivates me to do some research.

You see, when I find irresistible sales copy….I force myself to wait 24 hours to cool down. Then I write down what it was that made me REALLY want to buy it. I look at the bullet points. I study what triggered me to want to buy. I ask myself…”what am I really looking for? What info is in this product that will help me?”

You know what I usually find? I usually find that there are only one or 2 HOT buttons that the copy got me on.

This helps me take some emotion out of the buying process. When I take the emotion out of it, I find that I rarely buy something. My emotion is triggering me to want to buy it but I know deep down that I can find this information with a little research…for free.

Now, if it is a reasonably priced product (under $20) I usually snatch it up so that I can get some ideas of “what” to research further.

    Here’s why $20…….

Go to the book store. Check out the business section. You will find a large selection of information out there on paperback and when you look at the price, what do you see? I see a lot of $14.95, $19.95, $22.95 books that have high quality information that I’m looking for.

Sometimes a $14.95 book is WAY more valuable that a $197 product that you see on the internet…plus you get to thumb through it BEFORE you buy.

Take this to a new level and visit your local library. Find the same books here and get them for free.

However when in comes to $47, $97, $197 products on the internet, I stay away for 24 hours. If I still want it. Then I’ll buy.

Now, I’m not saying “don’t buy” internet products. I think you should. Many of these products ARE products of great value and can’t be found in the book stores or library’s. Plus, this is how we all make a living. Right?

Just be smart about it. If there is a product out there that you are compelled to buy. Give yourself a cooling off period so that you can analyze the product with logic…not emotion.

  4. Andrew,

I bought it and about ask for a refund! It’s not worth its price tag.

    Thanks,
    RB

PS: Check the link to Lazy affiliate…it’s not working ;)

  5. Thank You! I needed that. jimi

  6. I have been a ‘closet fan’ for some time because you always make sense. Not to mention, you save me TONS of research and work!

I had this exact problem with my upline sponsor and still have it with some members of my team. Fortunately, ‘steering’ and ‘managing’ seem to be my roles in life, so I just do what I do on my horse – Adjust the reins, sit deep and steer, steer, steer. Think Dory’s little ditty from ‘Finding Nemo’ – “What do we do? We steer, steer steer… Oh, I like to Steer!”.
