One of Peter’s specialties is Facebook, in particular, using Facebook to market your small business online.
While I’ve dabbled here and there with social networks, I’d never really gotten into Facebook, so some interesting ideas were exchanged indeed.
I told him about a recent blog post I’d made where I commented on the way different niches are to be approached, for example, not all niches are best targeted via a search engine or via a social network or any means as a standalone strategy.
He told me that he didn’t agree in the area of social networks, simply because sites like facebook, where 200 000 people new people sign up every day, EVERYONE is on facebook for some reason – well everyone on the internet is on facebook anyway.
This lead me to review the practice of actually using these sites as research tools rather than sources of direct profitability.
You can check out the “groups” sections on these sites and get ideas for niches that you wouldn’t find by using tools like Wordtracker.
Not only that but you can see how popular each group is relative to every other group. You can see how many people are in the groups and how much activity they’re getting.
Furthermore, if you do find one that you’d like to target and you make a site, you’ve already got your first method of promotion ready… JOINING THE GROUP!
It’s pretty interesting when you get in there and realize exactly what you’re looking at – the dollar signs don’t stop spinning.
The groups are divided into well organized categories making it easy to find what you need, and they’re there ready for you to dominate as soon as they appear.
Not only that, there are so many social networks with this feature that there’s no end to the depth with which you can use the technique.
If you haven’t found the perfect niche yet, this might be the place to head!
