I get the feeling that most people live life in a state of anticipation.
I know I do.
We do the things we do day to day in anticipation of a future benefit.
We’re hitting the gym so we can look great at the beach this summer…
We’re working hard so that we can advance our careers or grow our businesses…
We’re meeting people to network in the hope of doing a business deal…
We’re saving money so that we can buy a nice something or other that we want…
I get the feeling that the secret to life, the ultimate happiness and fulfillment we can achieve as human beings might just be…
To live life for it’s own sake.
To learn for the pleasure of stimulating our minds.
To work for the pleasure of challenge and the pride of daily progress.
To interact with others for the joy of connection.
To eat for the pleasure of enjoying our meals…
Just maybe…
What do you think?

Hi Andrew,
Just wanted to say that I’ve really been enjoying your posts recently. Definately a high point in my feed reader. Keep up the great work
All the best,

I’ll try to keep the quality high for ya.
Andrew
“It’s about the Journey, not the Destination.”
Keep up the good work, Andrew!
Kyle
P.S. – Are you still going to send out that email about the article submission (tool?) today? Hope so…=)
Hi Andrew,
This may be unrelated to the post above, but I want to ask about the opt-in form you have right after your post. Do you use a wordpress plugin for that?
Thanks!
Welly Mulia
Hey Welly,
No, I had to get it coded in.
And I wish I could describe you the technical process of how
to do that but I’ll likely fail in a miserable way.
You can simply insert some Aweber code into your single.php or
post.php files underneath the post content then play around
with it a bit but..
I’d consult with someone who knows what they’re doing
if you don’t have experience with editing WP themes.
Hope that helps.
Andrew
I’ve heard Kyle’s quote also phrased as
“Sometimes the journey *is* the destination”. Goals are great, but sometimes goals can actually limit you from attaining something far greater.
Good post Andrew. I like the fact that you have have a balanced view of life. So many IM’ers seem to be entirely about the money. Keep up the good work.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your response. Manually coded in eh? That’s too bad for me then because I’m certainly not a coder myself
Cheers!
Welly Mulia
I think the secret to life is when you focus on a project and a couple of hours go by and you look at the clock on your moniter expecting it to be about 30 minutes later. Total focus took over and the zone was inhabited.
Nick
Dwelling on the past brings regret and often times guilt, the future – worries and sometimes fear. Living in the moment, each and every moment, brings action, movement, worthwhile concentration on the task at hand, forward momentum, in turn a constant sense of satisfaction and well being. Life is a pleasurable thing, and there is pleasure in all things, but only if it’s your thing. If it is not your thing, then don’t do it. You guys are right, the Journey is where it’s at, besides when you arrive at the destination, then what? Watch your dog, watch and learn, learn and live.
Concretely, you can only live in the present. It’s obvious, but the past really is gone, unless you drag it along in your mind and in your habits, whether good or bad. And the future isn’t here yet. Too many people live too much in memory and in expectation. They wonder why life has passed them by. They don’t live in the present. They don’t know how to live in the present. They don’t really get it. At bottom, they lack gratitude for what they do have and might not have, and they do not have clear and prioritized values. They don’t realize that life is a road that is getting shorter by the second. Unless you know what your life means, you are not living like a human being.
Andrew, if you want to know the secret of life then you have got to read the manual. I urge you and our readers to act NOW. It is very very URGENT. Cataclysmic events are shortly to engulf the English-speaking world.
(if our building begins to burn and i don’t yell “Fire” (crazy though it will sound to most), how would i be judged?)
(you did ask!)
In the mean time in the IM area i find your material refreshing.
‘best,
Rob
Rob,
What’s “the manual”? – Do tell.
Andrew
And while we’re at it – what cataclysmic events are set to engulf our society? Should I be blogging about it??
Andrew, sorry, i thought you would go to the link forsure-bible-study.com
The site design is a bit dated now but i think you will read things there that you won’t read anywhere else.
I have started a followup blog bible-study.4scty.com . It’s not popular.
It can sound pretty bleak but i intend to progress to the really great news – i wish i had the time to write everything at once. (b.t.w. i don’t belong to any organised church)
Keep up the good work.
Well, yeah. We’re doing everything we are in order to have a better future and keep ourselves satisfied. (Feels selfish, lol)
But I wouldn’t necessarily look at it this way. As time passes, we learn, we mature, we grow. I think that’s the whole point of life: Learning, growing, and progressing. Mentally, physically, spiritually. I’m not religious at all, not even 0.1%. But it’s pretty much how nature made us, don’t you think ? Every dot seems to connect with another one. Every experience counts, teaches you lessons, your life moves forward, and on and on.
And perhaps the whole objective of our life is self-actualization: Doing literally everything you potentially can. Only a few people achieve it, as Brian Tracy said.
