Ok so I FINALLY got an affiliate application approved.
Too bad I found out that it was one that only contained ONE of the products I wanted to promote – GRR!
Anyway, I was able to get my first Adwords Ad up.
Here’s what I did:
1. I started an Ad campaign for this particular product name keyword.
2. I made the ad title JUST the product name – and the description was something like “Get reviews and the best prices on Product Name”
3. I sent traffic straight to the affiliate link which fortunately for me was not being advertised for that product name and hence was ok
This means I’m going to find out how many visitors who have come from the search term PRODUCT NAME, I’ll have to send through to this page in order to get a sale.
4. I used the keywords:
2B Pencil
“2B Pencil”
[2B Pencil]
2B Pencils
“2B Pencils”
[2B Pencils]
5. I bidded 60c per click and that got me up at about positions 1-3 for some of those terms and 4-6 for others. I’m not too concerned about the cost, I more just want to know if it will convert. I’ll make sure to report my Ad spend as well.
So that was about all – from here time will tell me how to proceed.
I had wanted to put up a bunch of product name ad campaigns at once to test which converted best out of all of them but the affiliate program issue didn’t allow me to do so.
Another mistake I fear I’ve made is that this niche now doesn’t seem to have as many promotable products as I thought. One of them doesn’t seem to be being sold at all, and the other product names, although they are “Brandname Pencil” kind of keywords, that brand name actually makes a lot of models of pencil, so i might have trouble converting a specific one.
But again, time and our tests will tell!
I’ll be back with another update on how the ad campaign went or if I get another aff program approval soon.
Til then.
