I’ve got this friend Colleen…
You might have seen her testimonial on some (ok, lots) of my sites because she’s built an incredible income using methods that included my NMOC techniques, among others.
She’s been alot of help to the forum members at Firepow too, and she shared this cool post about Article Marketing recently… Tell me what you think:

I have had quite a lot of people ask me, and I’ve also seen it on forums, about how many articles do you need to write to make money from them.
I’m going to be straight with you. You can’t expect to write 10 articles a month and make thousands of dollars every month as a result. Of course you can write one really good article that launches things and if you know how to market that one article that may be all you need to do…however, for the most part it’s unfortunately unrealistic.
It is called the workhorse method by Chris from Affiliate Project X fame because it requires work. However, on the other side of the coin it is limiting your expenses by far, though you are exchanging the use of your time for that.
When I started out with this workhorse method I made a commitment for a few months to write 3 ARTICLES ON A DAILY BASIS. Now I can type and I can do three articles in less than an hour. And that’s what I did. That meant that on average I would be writing 90 articles a month where the momentum starts to build up and it has a snow ball effect.
Now the beauty about Ezine Articles is you can now view your page views of your articles, the url clickthrough for each article and also how many times an article has been published. Now the last part, the publishing of the articles, is why Ezine Articles can also be so effective.
It doesn’t matter what other article site I publish my articles to, they just don’t get published at the rate that my EA articles do.
Now I’m going to give you a sneak peak of my ezine articles account to give you an idea of the true power of article affiliate marketing which is my method.
Currently I have 388 live articles in ezine articles.
Let’s look at my stats:
Article Page Views – 233,171
Articles Published – 3,516
URL Clicks – 21,673
Emailed – 28
Votes – 65
Now those results are not too shabby if I say so myself. And even if I did no more articles those statistics are still going up.
That is the ultimate beauty of Ezine Articles…
How much money am I making from these articles and my websites?
Thousands of dollars every single month (all while I work full-time in another job). I’ve put the hard yards in but it paid off relatively quickly and keeps paying me passively every month while I do my day job.
So the sooner you can get articles out there, and the more you can get out there better.
Now one article I have written gets thousands of views a month. Though my website is not in the top ten of Google, my article in this niche is (between 2 and 4), and the topic of this article gets over 8000 searches a month.
And my article has been in the top 5 of Google for many, many months.
How did I manage to keep this ranking when many articles don’t stick?
I went to the digital point forum and I paid probably under $10.00 for social bookmarking submissions for the article url and that’s it. Has worked wonders for me.

I’ve had similar success with article marketing (though not as big as Colleen). I wrote a couple of articles in 2005 that took off for a particular product. They kept bringing me traffic for about 3 years. They’re only just now starting to slow.
Unlike Colleen, it was the Buzzle article that got me the most traffic.
But I never wrote 3 articles a day – I think I would be happy writing 1 article a day because I’m too much of a perfectionist, I’m afraid.
It IS a numbers game – you just never know for sure which ones will take off.
Make sure the landing page in the link is well monetized or goes to a sign-up, or it’s all for nothing.

Nice stats…well at least until you look at Ezine Articles and see she actually only has 26 articles nearly all internet marketing related. And 60minuteaffilate doesnt exactly impress, give her some squeeze page help Andrew.
Maybe she has lots of other articles under different names, pity we can’t verify them tho.
26 articles is not too shabby compared to many other people.
Its depressing that marketers can’t grasp the simple fact that newbies like me would learn be more hearing about the real story rather some marketing hype, and be more willing to pay for doing so.

I can assure you she has other articles in other pen names on other niches. The number of articles you see there is copied from her account – it’s the real number
Only a small portion of them are from the IM niche.

Whilst I dont doubt your due dillegence, I like the reassurance of being able to independently verify things where possible.
But as I said in my first post 26 articles is not too shabby……there are 10’s thous on single figures.

I have just recently started article marketing. I want to submit at least 10 to 20 articles a week. I know that these methods work. Most who use these methods use pen names so it’s difficult to verify but I do beleive that they work very well.
If you don’t use pen names when you are marketing in a different niche, there is always a chance that someone will copy or steal your profitable niches.

Creating really good squeeze pages is NOT my thing so I’m currently getting some outsourcing help with that.
Regarding your comment of 26 articles – that’s correct, Colleen Slater has 26 articles live in EA, however, my pen names have the remainder.
I’m currently working on version 2 of my 60 minute affiliate ebook which will go into more detail with everything I’ve done, some new methods and lots more about what I do to try and stand out from the crowd in a sea of affiliates.
Article marketing is definitely a numbers game. Consistent and persistent effort results in building a momentum you don’t even see.
And once you really get into it it gets to be more fun and comes naturally. And I’m fortunate enough to be a very fast typer so I can usually do one in about 10 minutes too.
Of course now that my income has grown article marketing is not my only method for my affiliate income – however, it is my main one and I PREFER bum marketing even though I could afford adwords because that’s what I know and I’m tight with my internet marketing income.
It’s not called the workhorse method for nothing – it does require work – but the rewards can be long term. Eg, one article I submitted when I first learnt of the workhorse method – april 2007 – has had over 32000 page views.
Not too shabby and it’s remained on page 1 of google for the product name since then.

having started article marketing I now know it works. I have only geot 5 articles published on ezine so far and I must admit I probably took too long in writing them. As everyone is saying its a numbers game, but the hard work does pay off. Those 5 articles have so far earned me about $75 in affiliate earnings and they will keep sending traffic to my blog for a long time to come. Just need to do more. Also (this probably should be on another post) you do need to do other things such as social networking and getting back links, which is very important, to promote your site or your blogs. Work horse method is just that ,it means work, but it does pay in the long run.
Thanks for sharing your article marketing. I just start writing an article and plan to keep writing until I publish over 200. Let’s see how much traffic i can get out of article writing. Awesome. This workhouse plan can also be outsourced. I also use article marketing as my main traffic strategy, and it works very well.
